Competitive rhythmic gymnastics began in the 1940s in the Soviet Union. The FIG (la Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique) recognized this discipline in 1961, first as modern gymnastics, then as rhythmic sportive gymnastics, and finally as rhythmic gymnastics. The first World Championships for individual gymnasts took place in 1963 in Budapest, Hungary. Groups were introduced at the same level in 1967 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Rhythmic gymnastics was added to the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, with an Individual All Around competition. However, many federations from the Eastern European countries were forced to boycott. The Canadian Lori Fung was the first rhythmic gymnast to earn an Olympic gold medal. The Group competition was added to the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia( Russian team was the winner).
Part dance and part art rolled into sport, rhythmic gymnastics is unquestionably the most beautiful and graceful of all the disciplines.
Rhythmic gymnastics is all about self expression.

Acrobatic Gymnastics is a sport, which combines the power and athletic prowess of Tumbling and Artistic Gymnastics with the grace, artistry and presentation of Dance. Athletes compete in Pairs, Trios or Fours. In the first round of competition, each group presents two choreographed routines: The Balance Exercise demonstrates strength, agility and flexibility. Its beautiful pyramids and static holds require immense concentration and cooperation among the partners. The Dynamic Exercise uses rhythmic tumbling, and “flight” elements. Daring throws, pitches, catches, and tumbling sequences punctuate the choreography. In Finals, a third routine is presented, which combines elements of both the Balance and Dynamic exercises.
Acrobatic Gymnastics is one of 5 disciplines under the auspices of USA Gymnastics, the official governing body for the sport. USA Gymnastics is responsible for the training and development of the teams and athletes who represent the US in the Olympics, World Championships and World Cup competition.
All classes are one hour long and taught by a safety-educated instructor. Each class consists of a ten-minute warm-up, 3 fifteen-minute gymnastics rotations, and a 5-minute game time. Boy’s train on the trampoline, tumble track, rings.
Gymnastics provides athletic training for young boys and prepares them for any sport they may play including soccer, diving, football, baseball, and track. Of course, a long and successful gymnastics career is great, too!

Our Early Childhood Pre-ballet program is designed to introduce young children to basic elements of ballet, dance and movement as they develop basic locomotors skills, rhythm, and coordination. Children learn the basics of classroom behavior and manners such as learning how to take turns, following or leading, waiting patiently, working with others, and having a positive attitude. Our students are trained in the concepts of movement sequencing, patterning, and spatial relationships, which also lays a strong foundation for the later development of mathematics, reading, and other academic subjects. Students also develop the intellectual concepts of self-awareness, creative expression, imagination, and basic health and body awareness. This skills learned in these classes will prepare our students for the more disciplined ballet, jazz classes.
Our Pre-ballet class is the second level of our early childhood dance program. Students in this class will continue to work on the concepts learned in Creative Movement, but with greater complexity and more emphasis on the elementary ballet steps. Students who are seven years old at the conclusion of this course should be physically and mentally ready to begin study of the disciplined art of classical ballet.
Hip-hop students will learn a contemporary style of dance that is seen often in today’s popular music videos. Class includes a jazz based warm up and strength building exercises, progressions and skill work, and a breakdown of street & MTV style Hip Hop routines. This is an excellent class for male students.
Students will learn various styles of this contemporary dance form that is often seen in Hollywood, on Broadway, and on television. Jazz classes include technique, stretches and strengthening, terminology, coordination exercises, progressions, and combinations. It is also strongly recommended that jazz students study ballet, since ballet technique is used in the upper level jazz classes.
Our Preschool Gymnastics program is a parent/child participation class led by a safety-educated instructor. The class is 50 minutes long and is broken down into four 10-minute rotations and a 5-minute game.
The class usually begins with an aerobic musical warm-up designed to teach the children rhythm, balance, coordination, and basic gymnastics terminology. The class uses a tumbling circuit designed to teach basic tumbling skills like front and back rolls, handstands, and cartwheels. Trampolines are used to help with body awareness, leg strengthening, and balance. Children are also introduced to the bars and balance beam using an apparatus circuit.
The class usually ends with a fun 5-minute game time including the use of parachutes, bubbles, and balls.
